Oakley Square Facelift

The City of Cincinnati Department of Transportation and Engineering has finally released some new plans for the Oakley Square/Madison Avenue area.  Or as I refer to it: The Intersection of Fright!

Residents, businesses and the Oakley Community Council have been working very hard to get this project under way.  Though there is still no date set for the project to begin- at least some work is being done in the development stage.

The area included in this proposal is Madison Rd between Romana Pl and the railroad overpass.  Some of the improvements include expansion of the Geier Esplanade Park, sidewalk and curb extensions, the planting of more trees, and the addition of bus shelters.

You can see all three sections of the plan here in pdfs:

Section 1

Section 2

Section 3

Let me know what you think.  Will this help the square?  Do you like the new look?  What other changes would you like to see?

At the council meeting this week I did get some more dates for this work.  Duke Energy will begin work to the underground lines around the square early next week, this will cause some traffic cones and congestion, so be prepared.  The council expect the work between 21st Century and Skyline to be completed by the end of 2009 and the remainder, between Skyline and Ridge, by the end of 2010.   Can’t wait!
